MEANING:

noun: Unreasonable faith; blind faith.

ETYMOLOGY:

From Latin fides carbonarii (collier’s faith), from German köhlerglaube (collier’s faith). The term may have arisen from the dangerous and uncertain nature of coal mining. Earliest documented use: 1680.

USAGE:
